An Interview with Burnham Bros. Band's Keyboardist
When did you first start playing the piano?
When I was 8.
Wait...how old are you now?
I just had a birthday...15.
Is it true that the band has given you a nick name?
Yeah, and now I have to live with it. I'm known as M.D.
O.K. But what does that mean?
It means "musical director". :) Our producer wanted someone to be the director of the band and I was elected.
You are known as the quiet more introspective sort... Sometimes even deep. Is that true?
Yeah...I guess. I think it's because I have a hole in my sweater...you know, the deep part.
You are also known a lot of times as the band's arranger. Tell us about that.
Yeah, I like the technical end of song arranging. Trying different things...moving song parts around. It's really creative and I like it.
Is it true that for your birthday you got a bass guitar?
There is SOME truth to that. I mean, I haven't quite picked it out yet. They gave me a book on how to play the bass called The Complete Idiot's Guide to Playing the Bass Guitar. I'm not sure what they are trying tell me but...
Are you going to still play the keyboard?
Yes! But I'd like to learn to play another instrument and it would be fun to mix it up when we are performing.
O.K. I just gotta know this one. Are you really a beekeeper?
Yeah, it has side benefits...like honey!
There is also a rumour that you have a propensity for getting stung the day before performances and sometimes even hours before. Is that true?
Hey. I don't know where you are getting all of this information! But, yes. And before you even ask. I am slightly allergic meaning that my hand blows up like a balloon within minutes. It makes playing the keyboard...let's say....challenging.
Since you are known as M.D. Could you answer this one for the band. It has been asked by some of your fans. What is the first song you ever wrote together as a band?
We wrote "Skipping Stones" last fall. It was inspired by a river we always hang out at and also the inspiration came from what kids like to do. But our lead vocalist was the master mind behind that one! We plan to put that one up on Youtube soon.
Stay tuned for more Q & A from the Burnham Bros. Band!!!

What It's Like in the Recording Studio
(Walking to NYC recording studio.)
Many have asked us:
What is it like in the recording studio in New York City?
B3:
It is like going to an amusement park! It is A LOT of fun and each day is different.
When we get to the studio, we usually discuss what we are going to do for the day. Sometimes we will continue working on a particular song from last session like "Perfect Saturday" and... a lot of times our producers will ask us to play some of our new stuff for them before we go in to record...
Then, we either lay instrument tracks...
Or vocals...
This is where our lead vocalist picked up his passion for Dr. Pepper. There is a refrigerator stocked full of soda... we usually grab one during breaks...
This is the view from the window in the studio. This is really a photograph! It is directly behind us (literally) in our "discussion" photo!
Stay tuned for more Q & A from the Burnham Bros. Band...

An Interview with B3's Guitarist
What's your favorite beverage?
Snapple Fruit Punch.
What did you have for breakfast this morning ?
Sour cream coffee cake with milk. It's a secret family recipe. It's a good way to jump start your morning.
Why on earth do you have such long hair...I'd like to know?
Guitarists have to have either long hair or bald heads. There is no in between.
What's your favorite snack food?
Cape Cod Cracked Pepper potato chips.
What color would your next guitar be?
That's easy... definitely yellow. But not just any yellow. Not taxi cab yellow!
Describe it!
It's sort of an expensive yellow!
What rock band do you listen to mostly?
Well, that's a hard question. I love all music but right now I'm listening to a lot of The Beatles and Pink Floyd.
What do you like to watch on T.V.?
I like to watch Mythbusters because they always end up blowing something up. And you gotta love the combative atmosphere between Jamie and Adam. ...And Jamie's stache is cool! I've also been watching a lot of Lost lately.
What is your favorite shirt?
It's gotta be my Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon t-shirt.
What is your favorite chord?
B minor!!! It sounds great on the guitar. It's not too high. It's not too low. It's just perfect.
What's your favorite part of playing a gig?
It's definitely not when we set up and break down! When we play Baba O'Riley. It's so full of energy. The crowd goes WILD!
What you do when you are not playing music?
One of the activities we do is Extreme Croquet...it's our own invention. It's similar to normal croquet except for the steep hills and blocks of marble which pose as obstacles in the players way. It's a cross between golf and croquet. We have a shot through the wicket called "Loserville" which goes straight up a hill and a place called "The Equalizer" where you can be stuck at for a long time which allows the other players behind you to catch up.
We also like to play Whiffle Ball. It is a very competitive sport in our household.
What's you favorite original B3 song?
It's Perfect Saturday right now. We have some really cool songs we're working on at the moment and we're looking forward to playing them out soon.

The Music Thing on the Bottom
So, I finally figured out how to put music on my blog, but don't have any quality recordings of our own stuff to put on. So if you're wondering why I've got Another Brick in the Wall in the audio player, that's why ;)
(Also on my links bar, there's a new link. It's a youtube video of a B3 Vocal session, but look for some better quality full recordings in the near future.)
